Why debating at 2:AM is a bad idea

Edit
Why debating at 2am is a bad idea....
by Lukus Joshua Black on Sunday, 28 February 2010 at 02:24
A friend and I are on the same side, debating some theists on youtube. At 2:00am out brains have gone someplace happy, and someone suggests that taking morals from the bible is about as logical as taking them from the Maytag Washer manual....It got worse....lol

"No no, im an atheist. I was just saying the bible itself is real. "

"A maytag washer manual is real too. Yet I wouldn't look for a moral code in that book either. People should remember that the word bible is just the greek word biblios - meaning simply book. It's a book. Don't ride the short yellow bus and be one of them people! Read it, then discard. Repeat if necessary."

"I'd rather search for morals in the Maytag Manual, lol "

"And lo - the repairman sayeth: Thou shalt not mix thine whites with thine colors - for it is an abomination in the eyes of thy warrantee"

"And he speaketh to me.....The might and valor of Clorox hath smite the stains of the wicked!"

"And the repairman saw the tub assembly was dark and without form. So he sayeth "let there be a rinse cycle!" and it was good. Verily say the repairman. A wash."

"And the Lint Lord sayeth... He who doth put in two socks, shall sacrafice one to him. Tis a miracle to behold. Two doth go in, one doth come out.....Do I here an Amen???"

-lol, Just thought you'd enjoy that.

Applying Pressure To People's Religious Beliefs

I think that anyone who can't grasp even the basics of evolution should be put in the back of the class with the plastic scissors. I learned about this stuff in junior high... I didn't know every detail, shit I still don't.... but it was easy enough to comprehend. Anyone who doesn't understand is simply incompetent and should not be allowed to run for any office no less teaching the next generation.

Comedians joking about religion. And upsetting facts

A comedian distorting facts.... Do I really have to mention exactly how a joke is formed? This guy is an idiot.

What facts did Eddie Izzard distort? Aside from what was obviously meant to be part of a joke... If anyone thinks Henry the Eighth sent a wife into outer space they would have to be complete and utter morons.... On the other hand,.... anyone who could get offended likely believes in a talking snake....never mind.

Best Of Atheist Comedy & Satire #2

There is one thing about the bible I never understood. Many Christians believe that it was written by their god himself.... Ok, fine.... why do some of the stories conflict? Their god is omniscient.... ok. fine.... why does the bible read like Dr Sues? You would think an omniscient author would have a bit more knowledge when it came to basic science.... I can imagine seeing a five year old hearing of a flat earth and thinking... "um...that doesn't make any sense..." Adults have no excuse.

Quran Burning & NY City Mosque - The Atheist Experience 674

The Koran burning thing I never quite understood. If a child (theist) is acting out, and you break one of his toys, what is he going to do? He's going to act out even more, he might even take a bite out of you. I am not saying we should appease the theists, I just don't think intentionally pissing them off is the correct tactic. Remember, these people hear 'the voice of god'...... You don't fuck with deranged people just to get a laugh, or you're likely to get tied to a stake and set aglow.

My Thoughts On Anti-Evolution

I will never truly understand the reasoning behind anti-evolutionists. As a child, I was indoctrinated into the Roman Catholic faith. I believed in whatever information I was given about the faith. In other words, at such a young age, I was allowed to know all the shiny happy things about Yahweh, and the bible. I, of course did not know of the horrors the book had in store... Why bother, it would have just confused me, right? I grew up in a fairly structured life. I knew very few people (none that I can admittedly tell you at this point) that were not also of the Roman Catholic faith.

I had the daft idea that everything I learned could be integrated in some way with the knowledge I had of Christianity. The sun was made of gases that burned brightly in the sky. Well, why not? Why wouldn't a deity of such power think of using chemistry to shed light on his people. I was sure miracles and magic existed, but assumed it was only used in early creation, then allowing for nature to take it's course.

I then learned about evolution. I was in awe of how simple the basics of it really
where, and loved the idea that one animal could come from another. Being little more
than a child at this point, swinging from trees and hanging out in the woods was pretty much a norm for me, so the idea of evolving from an ape-like creature seemed perfectly possible. I was still a Christian at this point. Why would I not be?

Evolution, in itself does not disprove the existence of God. Just like the sun, I just assumed God created life, and let time and nature take it's course. Though I had already thought that Adam and Eve were simply part of a metaphor, evolution dragged me back into thinking that maybe it was more real than I had thought. Perhaps Adam and Eve were simply the first Humans after we evolved...

It was not till I was fifteen, and began seeing the horrible things that Christianity had been doing since it's inception, that I began doubting my faith. I started to see patterns in people's behavior, and noticing very odd things in the traditions we shared. One tradition was Christmas. A celebration that had much to do with snow, pine trees, candy and gifts. Christians told their children of Saint Nicolas and his reindeer. I could only wonder at this point how any of these traditions started since Jesus was born in Israel...A Desert area. I began to do some research...

I found out that EVERY tradition came from Pagan beliefs of one sort or another. Even their angels were ripped from Pagan traditions. The Pagan god? Well, he looked a lot different in the Christian mind. His deer had hooves instead of him, and he gained some weight, but... Even the partly secular tradition of Saint Valentines Day was based loosely on a Pagan god(s) named Baal/Nimrod/Pan... At any rate, I could not carry my belief system because I did believe in some sort of hell, and pretending that these beliefs and traditions were derived from Christianity was a lie. Liars went to hell. I became a Pagan.

When I finally left the Pagan faith about ten years later, it was because of a book called Neo-Tech by Frank R Wallace. I won't get into what it's about, but it's a great read, if not very, very long. From about a third of the way through the book, I was an Atheist.

As an Atheist, I began reading, and watching many videos on religion. This was the first time I ever heard of the anti-evolutionists. I did then, as I do now, think these people are without a doubt the most blatantly ignorant people alive. Remember, even as a child, I held my Catholic beliefs, and understood evolution as a fact. I could not imagine a world (back then) without a god in it, and since evolution was real, it must mean that God had a hand in it. It was simple logic (for a theist).

I do not believe in any gods now, though I hold a special place in my heart for Pagans and their beliefs. I may never, however, understand why anyone, theists included, could deny evolution. It is a given. It is something that simply is. Like gravity, and electricity, everyone will eventually have to stop denying evolution.

Hitchslap 16 - Hitler was no atheist

In a reply to this video some idiot did not believe Hitler was Christian, so he, of course brought up Stalin and Mao. This is the first reply he got:

"Crusades - religious, slavery - religious, dark ages - religious, witch hunts - religious. You have thousands of years to answer for and the best you can do is talk about Mao and Stalin. I'll grant you 100 years for those 2. Now you can try to balance out the other 2900 years of the religious nightmare lol Good luck, you will need it. Better yet, pray, that always helps." -moety2

Very well said mate! I applaud you!

Gay Man Stoned to Death in Philadelphia

I don't get why we catch shit for TALKING against religion when a man can get brutally murdered in a god's name and the only two reactions from his fellow christians is "awe that's too bad" or worse... "he's just carrying out god's wishes". Though the latter example is a true statement, the sentiment is grotesque at best.

Once we have reached the age or condition of accountability, the claim 'I was born that way' does not excuse actions or thoughts that fail to conform to the commandments of God. We need to learn how to live so that a weakness that is mortal will not prevent us from achieving the goal that is eternal.

@EscapeNewJersey The word you're thinking of is ad hominem. But I don't really care. And please don't ever use any form of the word logical - I don't think you have any idea what it means considering you believe in the christian god.
csmiller1988 8 minutes ago
#
@EscapeNewJersey Logic? Seriously? As a believer in the bible, your logic is lacking. However, though that was an attack on you, somewhat in jest, it was also pointed. You are claiming moral superiority in the name of your god, and the text of the bible in reference to homosexuality. It is blatantly obvious that the bible is immoral, so the argument is a redundancy. I was simply pointing this out....and then I had a laugh at your expense...sorry...a bit....

My Facebook Photo Album

I just thought I'd share my new album on Facebook. I hope people like it.

Texas Hates Evolution

I don't understand how these "academics" have stopped teaching students about the amazing and purely scientific theory of fairies. Don't these 'science' teachers know about how they make the plants grow? Unbelievable. .....People of Texas, people have thought of Texans to be dimwitted for a long time now. Prove them wrong. Get fairy magic out of your damn schools, don't delete parts of known history, and don't get rid of your teachers. It's fucking obvious that you are in dire need of them.

Mrs Ra making education a priority

I'm sorry, if you don't have the knowledge to balance the budget, then don't you think losing even a single teacher would be a really bad idea? They are already contorting history to suit their agendas, as well as science. I would say that the few teachers willing to stick it out would be welcome with open arms. Or do these people just want then next generation to be plebs? Keep people stupid to keep them in line.

Getting Sexy with VenomFangX

Why does there have to be only two scenarios with creationists? "god exists or we just wanted him to" or "god creating things or they appeared by chance". No wonder science eludes these people. Also, here is a little game... Every time Shawn says the word 'god' replace it with the word 'fairies' or 'unicorns'. It makes just as much sense.

Atheist Comedy - Intelijunt Dezine

I'm not saying I don't like the video, I find it hilarious. I do think, however that the word 'fuck' is spoken way too often. I realize your trying to make yahweh look like an imbecile, but repeating the same curse over and over only tells the audience that the producer has a limited vocabulary. Cursing is fine, but change it up a little bit. Otherwise... I laughed my fucking ass off. ;v)

I'm always up for some good satire, and let's face it, she's quite good if people keep believing she's real. I watched the video and I couldn't tell...couldn't care either, but that's not the point. I do believe however, satire or not, that there is such a thing as a joke in poor taste. A satirical video about hoping for a disaster that actually happened is in seriously poor taste, satire or otherwise.

Turning Back The Clock On Women's Rights

Reading an article from TheNation.com, some things have become abundantly clear. I hope that everyone who reads this post, not only reads the article, but shares it with everyone they know.

The fundamentalists have always considered abortion to be controversial, but perhaps for different reasons than we all believed. The arguments this article gives are quite understandable. With the abolishment of abortion, and loss of maternity leave benefits, this means that women will have little choice, once becoming pregnant but to stay at home and care for their offspring.

This may sound reasonable, however, this would not be the choice of the woman. With legal abortions a woman can choose whether or not to have a child depending on whether she is stable enough in her job to do so, and whether she wishes to bring up a child at all. With maternity leave benefits, a woman has the right to produce a child if she pleases, and care for it until she can safely go back to work knowing the child will be taken care of by daycare until her return.

Without both of these very basic rights, a woman would have no choice but to have her child, and once she does, no choice but to quit her job and become a stay at home mother until the child reaches a mature age. This means that the woman is now a compulsory breeder. She will also have no choice but to stay with or gain a man to 'bring home the bacon'. Whether this man is a good man or an abuser makes no difference as the bills must be paid, or she will be out on the street with her child.

The year is 2011, no 1950. Housewives are pretty much a thing of the past. If a woman should choose to become one, it is her decision. If she chooses to work for a living, she should have that right. Do not let our elected officials turn back the clock. We have come this far for a reason, and we still have a long way to go. If they succeed, the next step will be far more unpleasant than you think.

Atheism: A History of God (Part 1)

This is one of my favorite videos. It shows how we created the Christian god out of Pagan gods before him. It also shows how Yahweh was the god of war before he was rewritten for Christianity.

Fight Or Flight?

As many know already, Wisconsin is having a protest battle of their very own. "Sorry,...did You say...Wisconsin?". Yes, that's right, a place you rarely hear of is now huge news. Basically, there is a 'new' idea from the republican party to ass rape the working class in order to get out of debt. To keep it simple, they want to cut people's salaries, then take away union rights to fight it, making it damn near impossible for those salaries to ever be reinstated.

Now, Wisconsin democratic half of government was not in favor of this. They were so against it, that instead of voting it down, which could have been a toss up with the republicans, they decided to ditch. That's right, the democratic senators of Wisconsin fled the state! This means, without a full roster, the bill can not be voted on.

Of course the people (you know, those mindless puppets that wouldn't even notice when their rights are being taken away) caught wind of this whole fiasco and started protesting. I read in one article that there are so many protesters that the number of teachers alone shut down the states education department. President Obama himself has spoken out against the bill calling it an attack on unions.

The part that hit me the most was the democratic senators. They took flight to fight the bill. Such a simple idea may be strong enough to stop this bill from being passed...especially Now that the protesters are involved. If this happened on a more regular basis than good people like those fleeing senators could stop so many atrocities from occurring. Case in point? Maybe Prop 8 in CA. Would have bitten the dust. I will leave you all with one simple statement. WAY TO GO WISCONSIN!

Which do you think is the most dangerous religion?

If you had to choose one and only one religion to survive, which would you allow?
